I
really, really like this
"Getting Started"
setup, where I photograph the
model in the clothes she wears
to my door, and then continue
to photograph her as she
removes her clothing.
This is an especially good way
to get started with a model
that I'm working with for the
first time.
|
I never get tired of
this setup. It's a good way to break the ice, and it fascinates
me to watch a woman transfer herself from a "person on the street" into
a lovely art model. It reinforces to me that models are real
people (and should be treated as such), & that everyone you see on
the street is nude under their clothes. Maybe I've got a twisted
brain, but I am often amused by people watching & wondering
whether the people I see can be nude models.
|
|
|
Another
advantage is that this setup
gives the model something to
do with her hands. In
fact, I'm always looking for
something to occupy the
model's hands -- I don't
always succeed, but people /
models are simply much more
comfortable when their hands
are busy, and hands are the
second most expressive part of
a person's body.
|
It's also
interesting to me to see how a model dresses, what her fashion sense
is. And
I've got to admit that delaying the moment when I see the beautiful
young woman nude increases my anticipation.
|
|
|
It's
also interesting to me to see
how the model goes about
taking her clothes off.
For some, it's simply
matter-of-fact and no big
deal. For others, it
heightens their excitement
(and perhaps gets them
nervous).
For
Savannah, I think it was just
an opportunity to express her
allure. I think she
enjoyed this a lot.
|
I do read the comments
that people send in, and I do appreciate it when folks take the time
to send me feedback. One or two folks have told me that they are
tired of these "Getting Started" setups, but I love
it. It is exciting, it provides an opportunity to interact with
the model, it can be darn sexy, and I like the images.
So, I don't
anticipate giving these "Getting Started" setups up anytime
soon.

|
Okay,
let's talk a little about my
first impressions of Savannah.
I
love models who are confident
& experienced -- they are
so easy to work with.
With an experienced model, we
can become very efficient in
our communication -- we talk
in shorthand & get out
points across
quickly.
Savannah
is very confident &
comfortable with herself,
which also is a joy. I'm
very respectful of models
& take great pains to
ensure that I don't exceed
their comfort zone, but
sometimes you meet a model
(like Savannah) where you just
don't have to worry about
stuff like that. That
can make for a relaxed
sitting, which gives you more
freedom to experiment.
|
I'll let the pictures
themselves speak to Savannah's physical charms -- suffice to say that
I was quite pleased.
Savannah moves
well. Throughout the sitting, I was able to communicate overall
concepts, and Savannah "got it" right away and was able to
move & show me poses within the concept. She was very easy
to work with.
|
|
|
I
do have to say that Savannah
took her own sweet time
getting down to her naughty
bits. I'm not
complaining, mind you -- she
just stretched out my
anticipation. But I do
have to admit that there was
something in her posing during
this setup that made me think
about cold showers.
|
Savannah looks good
from every angle.
Something I've
noticed is that I much prefer images when the camera is set up fairly
low. Here, the camera is down at the same level as Savannah's
chest (can you blame me?), and I find that the resulting proportions
are just right. If I held that camera at eye level
(I'm taller than Savannah), I just don't think the resulting image
would be as pleasing.
So, that's a hint for all of you -- keep your camera low.
|
|
|
I
can tell that we are getting
close to the end of this
"Getting Started"
setup.
|
Now that I have her nude, I can see that she's lean, lithe, muscular,
graceful, and definitely feminine. Just how I like my models!
So, at this point, we just use this lighting setup & explore
some figure studies.
|
|
|
So
far, I'm very pleased to be working
with Savannah. She's easy on the
eyes, and she's easy to work with.
I
do want to take a moment to talk about
my growing dissatisfaction with my
equipment. My digital camera
just isn't capable of delivering the
kind of quality I want to see in my
images. Further, my PC is
getting old -- in particular, the
monitor is nearly 10 years old &
is losing its ability to display image
contrast & color saturation correctly /
consistently. I suspect that the
images that look fair-to-good in my
monitor probably don't look as good on
a typical monitor. I suspect
that I'll replace both the camera
& the PC sometime during the next
year.
This
sitting continues with Body
