I
really shouldn't start with this image, because it'll give you a
false first impression. Jane looks a little lost here --
this is a test exposure during the time I was fine-tuning the
lighting. With the lighting & the sepia toning, this image looks a
little old-timey.
So, keep an
open mind -- I'm sure you'll agree with me that Jane is
energetic, perky, confident, happy, and fun. More than
anyone I've ever met, she just loves showing off.
The image,
below, is more expressive of Jane's personality.

For
those of you who have closely read my commentaries, you will
recall that I've been having trouble with my left eye. The
good news is that the problems have stabilized, but the bad news
is that the vision through that eye is splotchy &
blurry. Perhaps that contributes to my fascination with
many of the artistic effects available through my photo editing
software. My favorite effect is the one below, the "paint
brush" effect. I've learned a new respect for skilled
painters. Every brush stroke counts, and each stroke has
to be the right color, strength, length, direction, etc.
I'm particularly interested in seeing how few indistinct brush
strokes are needed to summarize the overall image and how the
individual brush strokes can be combined into an accurate
(though abstracted) representation..
To be honest,
I apply one or more artistic effects to most of my images.
It doesn't always produce interesting effects, but I like
looking at them nonetheless. I've gotten mixed reviews
from visitors to this site, but I like them, so I guess you'll
just have to live with them. Suffer!
This
particular brush effect image came out well, I think. In
particular, I like how Jane's legs & feet came out. |

I
just love this "Getting Started" setup:
- It builds
anticipation.
- It starts
off with how the model looks when she's just walking around
on the street.
- It gives
the model something to do with her hands.
- I could
even argue that it is revealing (ha!) to see how the model
removes her clothing.
Look at
Jane! I've asked dozens of beautiful young women to remove
their clothes for me. By far, Jane is the most
enthusiastic. She can't wait to show me everything! |
Jane
is moving quickly to remove her clothes, and I do my best to
keep up with her. I like how she arranges her clothes in
little piles on the floor -- she creates some interesting
compositions for me without really trying.
I also like
the image below -- she's so cute & enthusiastic.

A
closer cropping, but I had to leave in Jane's smile.
Jane is an
experienced model, having modeled for ten or so years.
Yet, she approached this sitting with fresh enthusiasm.
That's a terrific combination: enthusiasm + experience. |
Simple
things make me happy. Although I liked Jane's little
dangly necklace, I did ask her to take it off. She does,
reaching over to slip it into her jeans' pocket. Such a
simple, natural gesture, and I like the resulting image.
That's a hint
-- keep your model's hands busy.
