I'm a member of a few Internet modeling web sites.  One of these sites, Model Mayhem, has a few social networking features (e.g. forums).  This site also has moderators, and one of them, Iona Lynn, is a well known west coast model/photographer.  As it turns out, Iona was in town last March, when I hosted my annual artists & models party here at my house, and that's where I first met her.

Fast forward a few months:  Iona had scheduled a trip through town, scheduling multiple sittings (as a model & as a photographer).  On arrival, she finds out that her lodging arrangements fell through.  So, I get a call late at night; when I hear her story, I tell Iona, "Hey, I've got a guest room that's empty right now -- c'mon over!"  Iona stays with me for a few days.

At the time, I was unable to schedule a full sitting with her.  But I stumbled onto an idea -- on one morning, with her permission, I'd sneak into her bedroom & photograph her as she wakes up.  "But I'm grumpy in the morning", she warns me.  I tell her she can be all seven dwarves -- we were looking for a healthy dose of reality.  These are the results.

I'm an early riser; Iona keeps vampire hours.  She's a good sleeper, and she ignores me.  But she gets a phone call, something about some on-going car repairs.  This gets her up.

9:30am
Phone call completed, Iona takes her languid time getting up.  She's a good sport -- I'm sure she'd rather just go back to sleep, but she previously agreed to be photographed like this.

No, I didn't follow her to the porcelain facilities.

Just a little more sleep.

Iona begins to stir.

Okay, she's up, already, and semi-ready to face the day.

These images are so unusual for me!  They are a slice of real life -- no posing, no preconceived thoughts of "art" -- they are just real.  I'm going to have to figure out ways to do stuff like this more often!
