I like the
off center composition of this image; it just works for
me. I am particularly pleased that the good light
is spread over such a good sized area.
When
I was in California, I had a room I used as a studio, but
it was small, barely nine feet wide with a normal eight
foot ceiling. It was constraining. Here in Oregon,
my "studio space" is my living room with the furniture
pushed out -- it is much wider than nine feet, and the ceiling
is almost ten feet high. It's less constraining.
But sometimes, I would love a really huge studio space,
with sixteen feet ceilings in a very big room.
In particular,
it could be a challenge to design lighting that is good
over a large area. The lighting in this image is a
happy accident -- I really don't know how to extend the
good light over a large area. It's a very good technical
challenge.

I like the
simplicity of this image.
Kira
has a lovely face. More, she has a lovely presence,
and she's well matched to this lovely light.
In fact,
looking at this image, I think I'd like to see it cropped
tighter. See below. Do you have a preference?

I often get
requests for more colored images, and that's not likely
to happen. But I'm not opposed to providing the occasional
example.
I like
this image (and yes, I do like the B&W version better
-- see the Out Takes). In particular, I like how Kira
has naturally positioned her head in front of the hot spot
on the back wall -- it gives her a halo.
Below
is the "brush strokes" version of this image.

Here's something
to think about.
We really
have a comfortable & fun time during these sittings,
and the occasional laugh is not rare. But somewhere
along the line, there's this rule that fine art models are
not allowed to smile or laugh -- fine art is
serious.
Just
because of that, I'm thinking that in the future, we'll
have to move away from all the seriousness of "fine
art". I think I prefer natural gestures &
real life situations.

I do like these
non-standard, unexpected compositions (well, when they work).
I used to do these unusual compositions all the time --
I should get back to that.
And yes,
it can be our little secret, but Kira is naked as a new
born. I like that -- it's a secret we can share.
