(This image,
above, is an alternate cropping of the first image on this
page). We have plenty of opportunities here, with
the window back lighting or with some strategically placed
strobes. I don't often like photographing models in
beds, but today, Keira & I were feeling it. |
|
I didn't like
the lighting with only the window light, so we pause to
set up the strobes. It's interesting that the strobes
so overpower the window light that suddenly it looks light
night outside. |
At the time,
I liked the light, and I kinda like it still. But
when next I repaint my walls, I suspect that I'll paint
these walls something darker than it's off-white color.
Also, this is the guest room -- I could & should spend
a little more effort in decorating it. |

|
Off-white walls,
yellow blanket, and fair skin -- it was all too bright for
me. So, I whip out a medium blue velour blanket for
the bed. I like having a variety of tones in my B&W
images. |
|
I like this
lighting a lot.
I encourage
people to study images they like (or don't like, for that
matter). I like how only one side of Keira's lovely
face is lit. I like the subtle, almost-not-there highlight
on Keira's left shoulder. I like how there is a tonal
separation between Keira's dark hair & the background.
I like how Keira's left hand stand out from the background
of her dark hair. I like the pose & the intense
look on Keira's face. I even like the composition,
with all that empty space at the top of the image.
What
do you think?
Below,
for contrast, is an alternate cropping and an artistic effect.
Still, I like this original treatment, here to the left.

It's a dirty
job, but I look at a big lot of photographs, all the time.
I've noticed that the vast majority of the photographs I
see place the central object of interest is dead center
in the image. That's a shame. There are some "off-center"
images that I just love. |
