It's
nice seeing pictures of models before working with them,
but I never truly get the sense of what it'll be like to
work with a model until I work with her myself.
Thus, the first sitting with a new-to-me model has the
objective, "get acquainted". As such, I
can't really plan out too many setups beforehand.
Desiree
& I have done my favorite setup, the "getting
started" scenario, where we start clothed &
photograph the model as she removes her clothing.
I
know I'm going to ask Desiree to pose in my shower,
which is another favorite setup of mine. We have
time for one more setup in between these concepts.
I figure that since both the "90's Kid" and
the shower scenes would use the studio strobes, I
figured we'd look for good natural light about the house
for the middle setup.
We
start on the back stairs.

Note
to self: Remember
to check the color balance at the beginning of each
setup!
These
images look like they are tinted blue. That just
might be the quality of light at that end of the house,
but that might mean that I forgot to switch the camera
from the color balance appropriate for the
strobes. I suspect that it has something to do
with the quality of light coming in from the window,
because consecutive exposures have significantly
different color balance.
And
to be honest, the light here today is mostly blah. |

So,
the back stairs light wasn't working for me, so we go
upstairs to the guest room. This is a finished
attic, so it is a slightly awkward space -- the walls
are about four feet tall, and then there is a 45 degree
angle in, up to a normally tall ceiling. Here,
there is a small skylight above a nice table. It
often produces unusual & nice light.
In
retrospect, I really like this light, but at the time, I
didn't. We didn't make that many exposures
here. I wish we had made more. |

We
tried the little alcove in my office.
I'm
just not liking the window light this day. Or
maybe I'm anxious to make sure that we have enough time
to spend in the shower -- the shower setup takes a bit
of time to get ready and to keep safe. So, after a
small number of exposures, we wander into my shower. |
