There is a "pace" that's just right, by which I mean how often should I be hosting photography sessions.  I strongly prefer to finish "processing" one session before undertaking the next.  By "processing", I mean hosting the session itself, editing all the images (and yes, I edit all the images, putting together a quick preview page for the model, drafting these permanent pages, giving the model a few days to review them, and finally linking the revised pages into this web site.  That takes time.

If the "pace" is right, I get to think about the last photo session before undertaking the next one.  If I don't host a session for a while, I find that I fall back on old concepts, to get the ball rolling.  If I host too many sessions in a little while, I don't think about new concepts to try.  If I'm not distracted by real life, that translates to about 10 sessions per year.

Melissa's session was the fourth sessions in about a month (along with Sarah, Keira, and Betzu).  That's too much!

But Melissa was great.  She really took to the "Getting Started" concept, and I was tired of my standard setups, so we decided to try something that I haven't tried before -- the concept on this page.  Melissa was just perfect for this concept:  she's playful & saucy.

A new concept deserves a new presentation.  I will not intersperse comments -- this is a sequence of images.  I'll reserve comments to the end.  Enjoy.

This is the hallway on my main floor -- to the left is the kitchen, to the right is the bathroom (with the semi-famous steam room), and that doorway at the end of the hallway is the door to my bathroom.

I really like the concept -- it's not something I'd want to do with every model, but it was fun doing it with Melissa.  I don't like the technical qualities of these images.  I used the ambient lighting -- the little track lights in the ceiling mostly.  With the deep orange-y yellow walls, the color balance was quite a challenge.  There wasn't a lot of light, and I hadn't figured out that I could up the sensitivity of my camera, so we were using long shutter speeds, which made these images too blurry.

But still -- I'd be happy to come back to this concept (with the right model) and see if we could improve it.

So, the next page is even more exciting -- where Melissa & I try something even more radically different.
